2013
Chengdu’s spring is known for its mild weather, bright sunshine and relatively little rainfall.
The word “CHUNYOU” carries deep childhood memories for many people in China. Through live music and parties, we hoped to rediscover the simplicity, curiosity and joy that belonged to those early years.
On April 20, 2013, the first “CHUNYOU” began at Morning Chengdu.
At that time, CHUNYOU was not yet a “festival” in the traditional sense. It was more like a gathering among friends. Two simple stages were set up in the front and back yards of Morning Chengdu — one for live bands and the other for DJs. Outside on the street, a small second-hand market naturally grew around the event.
The musicians performing and the people attending were friends, friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends. Together, they created a natural, relaxed and joyful space where people could meet and connect.
This spirit of freedom, openness and human connection became the emotional foundation that has carried CHUNYOU through every edition that followed.
